On Saturday the 10th of October I attended a Circa Waves gig at the O2 Academy, Brixton, London. Even though I attended the gig out of pleasure and entertainment I also analysed the artists stage persona and the audience of the indie gig. I also saw two support acts including Clean Cut Kid and Rat Boy whom I observed.
Circa Waves are a British indie-rock band who were formed in Liverpool in 2013 are now signed to Virgin Emi record label. The band have performed at many festivals including Glastonbury Festival(2014), Latitude Festival (2014), T in the Park (2014), Electric Picnic (2015) and Reading & Leeds (2015). The UK tour I attended was to promote the bands first studio album 'Young Chasers' that was released 30th March 2015.
Support acts Clean Cut Kid who an indie Liverpudlian four-piece band signed by Babe Magnet Records/Polydor opened the show. They had a typical indie persona stage presence, focusing on playing the music rather than chatting to the crowd. The up and coming band whose debut album scheduled to be released in 2016, all played an array of instruments from keyboard to guitar. I liked their bubbly and energetic vibes in addition to the way beat of the songs were mimicked by the change of lighting (see video).
Jordan Cardy known as Rat Boy on stage, produces indie hip-hop rock singles and mixtapes. The 18 year old from Essex has already been compared to the likes of Jamie T and Shaun Ryder despite the typical youthful social meaing behind his music e.g. 'Fake I.D'. Whilst overlooking the crowd I noticed this artist was popular amongst males due to the common relations with the artist the genre of music.
The main thing I have taken from this experience, is the use of dramatic strobe lighting
